In the Dutch language it is important to listen to the different sounds spoken. By combining sounds of letters children can make words and by making the words visual contributes to learning the Dutch language.

The two different methods are called: ‘What are you saying?’ and ‘What do I see?. There are 12 different themes which are worked with to make the method understandable for children from 4 to 6 years of age.

 ‘What are you saying?’ and ‘What do I see?’ have been recommended by the institute of Dutch Expertise in the Protocol of learning disorders and dyslexia to promote phonetic skills to children.
